Growing up in Oregon, Pat Abel found that he
had a gift for catching Salmon and Steelhead. Before
beginning his career as a
Fishing Guide, Pat was already a Professional fisherman,
designing a miter box (The Master Plug Cutter) to get the
exact spin
he needed on a herring to catch more fish.
While the rest of
the fishing industry attempted to catch up and build their
own
herring miter boxes, Pat stayed a step ahead by building
another miter box that lets the herring spin
counterclockwise
(Opposite the standard clockwise roll) Pat has become known
as a "Herring Guru" in Oregon's estuaries and rivers.
While many Oregon and Washington Guides head north to Alaska
to guide during the summer months, Abel made it his goal
to pursue fisheries close to home. Pat has shown his clients
that a trip to Alaska isn't needed to find; "World Class
Fishing"
right here at home. Pat starts his summer off by pursuing
Sturgeon that pull into the Columbia River estuary from the
Pacific.
Winter time is no time off for Abel as he takes to small
coastal rivers in pursuit of Winter Steelhead out of his
drift boat.

Pat floats his clients over emerald waters
through a rainforest that abounds with life, even in the
shortest days of the year.
Winter Steelhead keep Pat busy right up until the Spring
Chinook surge into the Columbia and Willamette Rivers where
Pat will, once again, breakout his famous herring miter box. |
